I had the opportunity to meet and work with Hannah Brown Gordon, an agent from Foundry Literary Media in Chicago, Illinois. We briefly spoke about the concept of my memoir. She liked the ideas and offered up her business card as a result. This is a privilege and an honor to have this card in my wallet. Agents do not always give out their cards to each and every writer who pitches some idea.
I am truly proud to have had this opportunity and ready to try publishing at a higher level then online and printed journals. My efforts to learn the art of effective writing and editing officially has better prepared me to use my communications skills and are starting to pay off professionally. I am pleased with the outcomes of my efforts being a part of the AWW organization.
The network of friends and acquaintance met through this workshop are true professionals in this field, but it was watching the young writers in their efforts to belong as equals to the adults that inspires me the most this year. It was an amazing thing to watch the participating teen's passion for writing come through in their readings.
I am appreciative for friends like Sharon Short, Tobin Terry, Cyndi Powell, Wendy Beckman, Joanne Smith, Sam Wildow, and the rest of the 2013 participants' of the AWW, which are a great group of writers and editors. I look forward to volunteering next year.
